August

Quintiles Pacific, Inc. is established in California to serve biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients in the western United States and the Pacific Rim.

September

Quintiles Transnational Corp., a holding company for all Quintiles subsidiaries, is established in North Carolina to provide focus and leadership for management in worldwide offices.

November

Quintiles Ireland Limited begins operations in Dublin to expand services in Europe. Quintiles signs friendship agreement with CRC Research Institute, Inc. for marketing of Quintiles' services to the Japanese pharmaceutical industry.

1988

January

Quintiles, Inc. establishes operations center in Cambridge, Massachusetts to serve biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients in northeastern United States.

1987

January

Quintiles U.K. Limited begins operations in the United Kingdom to serve clients in Europe. The office moved from London to Reading in 1989 and to Bracknell in 1994.

Quintiles, Inc. is incorporated in North Carolina, USA.

1974

January

Dennis Gillings, London-born professor at the University of North Carolina, signs first consulting contract, which is with a European multinational pharmaceutical firm to analyze the performance of one of its products. Gillings and part-time staff provides statistical and data management consulting for pharmaceutical clients from 1974 to 1982.
