Richard is the President of Quintiles Technology & Solutions business, and is a member of the company's Executive Committee.
He is responsible for all aspects of technology and associated services with clients around the world, as well as internally across Quintiles business. With an extensive portfolio of innovative solutions and services, he leads the company’s global technology organization from Quintiles headquarters in Durham, North Carolina, USA.
A 25-year technology veteran, Richard joined the company in 2005 and has played a key role building Quintiles’ technology group into the multiple award-winning business it is today. The group provides technology solutions and services for Quintiles clients, and has received numerous accolades for innovation including the #1 business technology innovator across the pharmaceutical industry (2011, 2012) in the prestigious InformationWeek 500 rankings, and the Scrip award for the best clinical development technology in 2013. The group has also been recognized repeatedly as a one of the 'Best 100 Places to Work in IT.'
Before joining Quintiles, Richard held increasingly senior leadership positions across a variety of industries including consulting, technology product development, consumer marketing and aerospace/defense. Most recently he served as Executive Vice President and CIO/CTO for Telephia, a San Francisco startup which became the world leader in digital consumer data and analytics before being acquired by Nielsen.
Richard holds an honors degree in Computer Science from the University of South Wales, a New Zealand pilots license and races cars in the North American Ariel Atom championship. He serves on several boards including the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina, where he is an advocate for combining creativity and innovation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programs to maximize student development.
