RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – March 19, 2003 – Quintiles Transnational Corp. (Nasdaq: QTRN) today announced appointments within the company's Pharmacovigilance and Medical & Scientific Service Departments. Dennis Fowler, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the Pharmacovigilance Department as Senior Medical Director. Penny Randall, M.D., MBA, has joined the psychiatry team of the Medical & Scientific Services Department.

In a newly created position, Dr. Fowler will assume responsibility for the medical and regulatory functions within Pharmacovigilance, including assurance that all of the department's major deliverables meet Quintiles' high quality standards. He is based in the company's office in Research Triangle Park. Dr. Randall brings additional expertise in the central nervous system (CNS) and addiction medicine to the psychiatry team.

Dr. Fowler joins Quintiles after spending more than 15 years in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and clinical research industries. He has extensive experience with pharmacovigilance, clinical development plans, phases I-IV clinical trials, regulatory submissions, FDA presentations and providing medical support for marketing and sales.

Dr. Fowler graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Ill., and completed his post-graduate medical education, including an internship and surgery residency, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. In addition, he obtained a Ph.D. in physiology at Rush Graduate College of Medicine, Chicago.

Prior to joining Quintiles, Dr. Randall was a clinical investigator at Protocare, Inc., where she worked in the CNS therapeutic area. She has a background in academic medicine, having been on the faculties of the psychiatry departments at Yale University School of Medicine and more recently at the University of California, Irvine. In addition, Dr. Randall brings to Quintiles strong managerial experience from working for several years as a Senior Medical Director for United Healthcare. She is based in the company's office in San Diego, Calif.

Dr. Randall graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed her post-graduate medical training in psychiatry at Georgetown University and fellowship training at Yale University. In addition, Dr. Randall earned an MBA from the University of California, Irvine.
