Melanie Blackwood joined Quintiles in 2010 as EU Head of Late Phase Quintiles Project Management to further focus her experience in the Late Phase and Observational research arena. Since 2012, she has been the Global Real World Late Phase Project Management Head and is currently responsible for operational delivery of phase IV and observational Real World & Late Phase studies.
Mel has experienced a variety of roles within the Project and Client management environment with an in depth focus in the late phase area. She started her career in clinical and project management roles at Boehringer Ingelheim as a Clinical Scientist primarily working in the cardiovascular and respiratory areas. Moving to Covance in 1994 after several years of project and large program management she became a Director of Operations in Europe overseeing operational project delivery of a group of key clients and therapeutic areas. In 2004 she became a Client Relationship Director overseeing Japanese clients globally within phase III and Late Phase drug development. In 2008 she became Executive Director of a key Global Strategic Alliance for all projects within Covance.
Mel graduated from Southampton University and has a B.Sc. degree in Biological Sciences. She has a MSc. in Clinical Science from the University of Cardiff. She is CPMP qualified in project management and is a green belt in six sigma process management.
