Lung cancer demands more complex treatment regimes than other forms of cancer. It is generally treated by an extensive team of physicians and requires close collaboration to ensure the best treatment for patients. Financial pressures facing the NHS and increasing demands for lung cancer appointments have strained lung cancer services, resulting in capacity issues.

This was the challenge facing an NHS University Hospital that had become overloaded and was experiencing escalating waiting times in its lung cancer follow up clinic. It commissioned Quintiles to conduct a pathway mapping and service redesign project to transform its follow up service and utilize the skills of its Cancer Nurse Specialists (CNS). Find out more about how the project created an efficient new pathway and improved access for patients, resulting in a reduction of routine follow up hospital visits and increased staff morale.
