The prevalence of allergic diseases is increasing sharply in both developed and developing countries. These diseases include: asthma; rhinitis; anaphylaxis;drug, food, and insect allergy; eczema;and urticaria (hives) and angioedema.

Allergic asthma and rhino-conjunctivitis are the most common. Asthma incidence is rising, affecting some 300 million people worldwide. Allergic rhinitis (AR) affects an estimated 10-30% of the world’s population, with prevalence rates also increasing worldwide.
