Jochem Hogenhuis

1. What is your educational background?
I did a Master in Human Movement Sciences at the Maastricht University. Afterwards, I did my PhD in Cardiology at the University of Groningen, which I completed in 2006.

2. What did you do before you joined Quintiles?
After my Master degree, I worked as one of the Research fellows on a Dutch Multicenter Cardiology trial funded by the Dutch Heart Foundation and coordinated by the University Medical Centre in Groningen. Based on the data that we collected in that trial I wrote my PhD thesis.

3. How did you learn about Quintiles?
By surfing the internet.

4. In what position did you start and how did you reach the level that you are at right now?
I started working at Quintiles as a Senior Clinical Research Associate, a role that was quite similar to the Research Fellow role that I performed before my PhD thesis. This opened the opportunity for me to learn about all procedures of the company in a role that was familiar to me. After about a year, I knew Quintiles very well. I enjoyed working on Cardiology projects for Quintiles and I was promoted to the Clinical Team Lead role.

5. What are your responsibilities as a Clinical Team Lead?
In a global Cardiology trial I am responsible for three participating countries. My main task is to provide directions, instructions and support to Clinical Research Associates in these countries.

6. What does a day as a Clinical Team Lead look like?
Since the trial I am working on is a global one including many countries with different time zones, I always start my day with a full e-mail inbox. After responding to several e-mails, I review site visit reports that Clinical Research Associates submitted to me and provide them feedback. Furthermore, almost every day I attend teleconferences with colleagues of the project team to discuss trial related items. When there is some time left I work on project guidelines for the team. I am enthusiastic about my job since it is very diverse and I am in (phone-) contact with colleagues often.

7. Five keywords that describe Quintiles best?
Our five core values are customer service, teamwork, integrity, quality and leadership. Although these are very positive values, I would personally choose words like:
• Dynamic
• Opportunities
• Young
• Flexibility
• Enthusiasm

8. Why would you advise people to join Quintiles?
Mainly because of the good working atmosphere that Quintiles offers. Besides, as I mentioned before, I like the career opportunities and flexibility within Quintiles. I appreciate the possibility to work from home instead of getting stuck in traffic jams!
