(Nasdaq: QTRN) today announced the opening of an office in Beijing, China, further expanding its presence in the Far East and Asia-Pacific. The office in the Chinese capital is Quintiles' ninth in the Asia-Pacific region."The opening of our Beijing office follows from strong professional relationships we have developed with medical leaders in China," said Dennis Gillings, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Quintiles Transnational Corp. "China represents a high-growth market for pharmaceutical development and a source of new therapies from traditional Chinese medicines. Quintiles already is managing clinical trials in China from its Beijing office, which is headed by Dr Dan Weng, M.D., Ph.D., who received his medical degree from TongJi Medical University of China and his Ph.D. in bioengineering from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland. Dr. Weng, who has experience in clinical services in both Europe and the United States, also has an M.B.A. in health policy, planning and management from the University of Leeds in England.

The office will provide clinical trials services, training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) services and procedures, and healthcare consulting services. It is located at Bright China Chang An Building, Suite 903, No. 7 Jiangguomen Nei Avenue, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China 100005.

Quintiles' entry and expansion in China are being overseen by Dr. Dan Zhang, M.D., M.P.H., Director of Strategic Planning for Greater China Area, who reports directly to Quintiles Chairman and CEO Dennis Gillings. Dr. Zhang earned his master's in health care management from Harvard University and his medical degree from Peking Union Medical College.
