RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – February 19, 2003 – Quintiles Transnational Corp. (Nasdaq: QTRN) announced today the appointment of Richard Levine, M.D., as Director, Medical & Scientific Services, for the hematology, oncology, cardiovascular and respiratory team.
Levine joins Quintiles after more than 20 years of clinical and research experience in hematology, oncology and general internal medicine. In addition to his work as a primary care physician and a professor of medicine, he has managed an extensive clinical research program at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Over the last two years, Dr. Levine has worked in the contract research industry and has served as a medical consultant in all areas of drug development.
In his new position, Levine will provide medical consultation and therapeutic expertise as a key member of the company's Clinical Development Services project teams.

Dr. Levine graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his post-graduate medical training in pathology (Johns Hopkins Hospital), internal medicine (University of Chicago) and hematology (Rush Medical College in Chicago). In addition, he received research training in immunology (New York University) and cell biology (Rockefeller University in New York City). He also served as professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine from 1986-2001 and associate chief of staff for research and development at the VA Medical Center in Washington from 1980-2001.
