RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – April 18, 2012 – Quintiles’ ground-breaking embrace of digital media to improve many aspects of its work has received further acclaim, this time for helping employees connect and work together more effectively.
Quintiles completely re-designed its intranet, iQ, in 2011 with the goal of keeping the company’s 25,000 employees connected and engaged with a strong emphasis on collaboration. Now, the iQ site has been named ‘Best Social Intranet’ by the Ragan Communication Awards, one of the leading awards programs in the communications industry.
iQ is just one in a series of innovations announced by Quintiles as the company pioneers new strategies in digital communications. Earlier this year, Quintiles launched its Digital Patient Unit to interact with the digital universe and its communities of 2.8 million patients for opportunities in clinical research, observational studies and disease management programs. This came on the heels on Quintiles’ public unveiling of its innovative corporate social media policies.
In announcing the award, Ragan noted on its website, “The social intranet category included a lot of noteworthy efforts, but Quintiles produced the most comprehensive, strategic, well-measured and well-executed result of them all.
“Quintiles’ communicators were tasked with creating an intranet from scratch that would transform the way employees create, discover, share and interact. It’s done just that, and we’re pleased to recognize it as the winner of the Best Social Intranet,” Ragan continued. “Most impressive is the outcome itself, the comprehensive and visually appealing employee profiles, the integration of social tools like five-star ratings, the list goes on.”
On iQ, each employee has a public profile visible to all fellow employees across the company. Similar to the social aspects of Facebook and Twitter, iQ users have the ability to “follow” their colleagues, post on colleagues’ walls and provide status updates.
Senior Quintiles executives use iQ to interact with their entire business units, support functions and the broader organization, but any Quintiles employee can create a blog or comment on other employees’ blogs and iQ’s daily, original-content news stories.
“We are very proud to have iQ recognized as the best social intranet by Ragan,” said David Coman, Quintiles senior vice president, communications and patient recruitment. “We are committed to building a more networked model of communication for both employees and the customers whom we serve. This award helps confirm we are making progress on our goal. We look forward to continuing our efforts in this area.”
