Carl W. Trygstad, MD, Vice President of Quintiles Japan-Hawaii, is Medical Director for Quintiles Japan-Hawaii Pacific Health Alliance, which conducts clinical trials in ethnic Japanese subjects. Responsible for all trial aspects in Hawaii, he supervises the regional CRAs and serves as senior medical consultant for trials in Latin America.

In 1997, Dr. Trygstad joined Quintiles' medical and scientific services department, where he has been in charge of Phase I CNS trials and all pediatric trials. Over the years, he has served as Project Medical Officer for a number of pediatric projects at Quintiles; several obtained market exclusivity under the new FDA guidelines. Experienced in pharmaceutical drug development as a clinical investigator, Dr. Trygstad also has extensive clinical practice experience in critical care.

A former Professor of Pediatrics and Community and Family Medicine at the University of California, where he was principal investigator for an NIH RO-1 grant for studies in cross-cultural medicine, Dr. Trygstad held various positions at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation over nearly 20 years and remains a senior consultant.

Dr. Trygstad received his medical degree with highest honors from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed his internal medicine residency at Duke University and pediatrics residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Board certified in pediatrics, pediatric nephrology and internal medicine, he is published widely in the areas of pediatric renal disease, medical education and controlled trials.
